Facebook Marketplace seems to be the main way to search and find used ATV's.
A hidden oil leak may have claimed my 01 Yamaha Big Bear 400 which has been a beauty for two decades of hunting, just carb stuff and one CDI box.

Need a replacement, but I'm not at all looking at the new AVT market.
Any other suggestions?

Have you considered getting it fixed? I bought a pile of shite grizzly 660 for $400, tore it apart and rebuilt and sold it for a few thousand. Hard to find good ones and the prices are super high. Especially during hunting season.

Considering it, but not sure the extent of the damage. Piston seems seized, but is that it, or is there crank damage too?
It was running fine, sputtered a nit like it was running out of gas, ran okay for another few min, then when I came off the throttle, it died.
Towed it back into the container and locked it up.
I'll check it out more when I get back to the camp.

That alone makes you think the motor is the issue? That could be a carb and/or fuel delivery, too. I'd pull the fuel line off and open the petcock to make sure you are getting flow from the tank. A petcock that old (if original) is most likely in need of replacement.

The smoke coming off the engine made me think it.
The petcock has been changed before, and I rebuilt the carb a few weeks ago.
Now the fricking float always seems to give me problems leaking if I don't turn off the fuel, and this time it was overflowing even while running.
I am also wondering if the fuel washed out the cylinder and caused it to freeze up.
Also, the engine won't turn over now, which adds up to a locked piston. Maybe.

Used prices have been so high I would probably just buy a new one. It will last you 20 years.

I was going to buy a new one. Found a 2020 model that hadn’t been sold. The list price was $4999, which I was more than prepared to pay.

But when the sales guy showed me the final price (tax, setup, delivery) it was $7,000.

I just couldn’t stomach it.

I’m looking for a side by side. I think I found one, we’ll see if the guy shows up to deliver and take the cash on Sunday.

I’ve been looking for one as well as I need to get me and two kids around the camp. Really hoping I can find a nice used one by end of next summer or I guess we’ll have to bite the bullet and pay for a new one (assuming new ones can be found).
