anything help with this kind of feeling?

Time to get a new one.

I believe that all of our dogs are waiting on the other side of the gates along with our family and loved ones.

The only problem with dogs is they don't often outlive us.

We had to put down the best dog we've ever had last year. It was upsetting, but it's comforting to know that he lived a good dogs life. He did what dogs are supposed to do, loved every minute of it. I know he would have never traded one second of it for anything else, and I'll get to see him again one day.

Be thankful that you got the time you did with the good dogs you've had, and go give another one a great dogs life.

Thank you for this insight bluemoons, had to put one to sleep 6 weeks ago and I still get emotional with having to make that decision.

I understand they all will die, and if one morning I found him dead it would have sucked but I don't think nearly as bad as having to actually take him into the room and pet and hug on him while they give him the shot. Its the euthanizing part that got me.

We had to do this with my parent’s family lap dog. He was such a happy thing. Always greeting people with a smile, loved watching TV and barking at deer. RIP

It was the saddest thing I’ve ever been a part of because he’s not dead, your assisting in that.

An old redneck once told me "The reason dogs don't live as long as us is so we can have more of them in our lives".

He told me that after helping me load my dog into my car to take her to put down.

It always stuck with me, and I don't think I'll ever forget that day he said it

Everyone has their own opinion, but as hard as it was, no way I was going to let my dog get euthanized without me holding him before he went. No way.

This was the worst part of it for me. My dog was obviously in pain but when I told him we were going somewhere he was happy as shite about it. It would have been easier on me to see him go if I'd waited until he couldn't walk but it would have been harder on him.

I still miss the shite out of him (had him from my senior year in high school to when I was in my 30s) but getting another dog helped a lot.

We had to put our 2 Golden’s down 6 months apart…never cried so hard than when the vet told me there was nothing they could do for the first one…
We used a service where a vet came to the house and put her down. No angst for the dog, just love from the whole family…laid her on a heavy blanket on the bed, gave her a shot to put her to sleep, next shot finished the deed. I will always use that service going forward. They had no idea, no fear.

I wanted to be dog-free for a while but the wife only lasted about a month before she started talking about getting another golden. We had or new pup about 3 months after our last Golden left us. It was the right time for us.

Really sorry to hear about that. A good dog is one of life’s best joys. We had to put down our 11yo yellow lab 2 years ago. I was living in a different state at the time (dog lived at my parents). They had me on FaceTime with the dog the night before. I was doing a decent job holding the emotions in check until my mom told me to tell him that he did a great job as our protector, best friend, etc. That’s when I lost it. Miss you, buddy.
