I want to do my food plots a little different than years past and I hear a lot of hunters are going with premixed blends. What's yalls opinions on what mixes or brands the deer like best? I seem to remember a lot of folks like buck buster mixes

rye is nothing more than filter in the bag, it looks nice in the plot but it is of no value to deer so they don't eat it on my place...

I like that a lot, I just called the co-op and it's like $47 for the premium in 50#. I definitely don't want a lot of "filler" which seems to be in a lot of the mixes I've seen

Would it be too warm to start planting now? Cool front this week, but I'd imagine it gets back in the 90's next week?

Buckbuster Basic Fall Mix topped w/Durana Clover

Durana is hearty as hell and will grow in damn near anything including soggy and shady spots. The clover will also grow throughout the summer and you can lightly disc (cut grooves not turn soil over) and over seed the next fall with another coat of the same Buckbuster mix.

You should be okay, we are planting in S Mississippi this weekend. Temps are slowly trending down, just need some rain. Last October was so dry none of our plots did very well.

How's the buck buster premium? I just bought a bag today. The guy that runs Sacs in Gonzales said hunters rave about it.

Planted this alone a few years ago before we got into the clover thing and it did very well. After all the annuals headed and died off we had a good little stand of the perennial clover and plantain.

We don' think the additional price is justified when you can buy the seed that's added to the premium mix by the pound at your local coop.

Have had great results with Evolved 7 card stud. Most of my plots are 1/4-1/2 acre

Buck Busters is good, but our experience the deer don't really touch the brassicas.

Our go to has been Cereal Rye (not rye grass), Oats, AWP. Crimson clover to top for early spring.
