I’m looking to do the same with my Dad and brother for Sandhills Cranes in either Texas or Oklahoma
Hunting Ppterodactyls is amazingly fun you ain't ever done it! The panhandle of Texas is crawling with the things....very difficult to decoy. Cranes are the one exception I will make to avoiding hunting with an outfitter...between the expense of proper decoys (the minimum quality in the panhandle are about $1000 a dozen, stuffers are the gold standard and unless you can make them yourself about $300-$500 each if you can find them) and access to the fickled beasts they are really tough to DIY. In New Mexico its a different story as there is almost no pressure and access is easier but there are WAAAAAAYYYYYYY fewer birds. I've shot decoying cranes in New Mexico over silos...I doubt if 100 a year are shot over silos in Texas but I could be wrong...
Goose hunting in the panhandle is also out of this world and if you put the time in its possible to get access to private land. Not easy but still possible up through 2018 from personal experience.

All excellent points and a lot of truth in what you said.
only exception I take is that DIY for someone who may be older and (physically and mentally) less enthusiastic or capable could be a hardship. everyone is different, but you have to keep the ages of the participants in mind.

In Ark - Slick's/5 oaks/ Stan Jones are probably the best combination of lodging and hunting that I know of
5 oaks is pretty expensive
Lost Island is probably the best hunting but they don't have a lodge and there is a waiting list
Honey Brake seems like the best combination in LA but the hunting can be hit/miss if its a down year but heard they were doing good this year

If you’re hellbent in Stuttgart call Dry Lake Hunting Service. I hunt out of Jonesboro and outside of the opening weekend it’s been awful this year. We tried Dry Lake and caught it on a terrible day for any duck hunting. I’ve been following them a little and he truly cares about giving you the best opportunity to kill ducks. He owns majority of his own land so he has significant control over preparation for the season.
See if someone can give you some places in Missouri. If you’re going all the way to Arkansas you should keep going north into Missouri. My club across the board says the hunting is significantly better than Arkansas.

after my experiences the past 2 years, my duck hunting will be in KS, OK and Tx.... only a few occasional hunts in LA

Plazadweller, where around Jonesboro?
I have a couple of buddies in a lease up there. They have fields at Knobel, O'Keene and Alicia.
Like you said, it's been tough. Better than last year, nothing like 2 years ago.

I’m south of Jonesboro around Waldenburg/Weiner area. This season has been terrible. Two of the guys in my club spent all day last week going to every hole/blind including the leases it no longer has just to see if there is anything and absolutely nothing here right now. They’re still north. The owner of the club took a short trip to Kansas and slaughtered them.
