Best brand/type for south Louisiana?

I am probably not the expert that some of the other baws are here, but in my experience it is a good upgrade to get the metal-mesh ones rather than the string-net kind, as the string snags and rips on the bottom and sometimes on itself.

Do you want traps or nets?
Kenneth Prestenbach makes the best nets I have ever seen but they are not cheap. I have 2 dozen and they are so much easier to use than the cheap academy specials. Kenneth sells on face book, just look him up and send him a message. If you don't go with him, make sure whatever net you choose has a tight bottom.
Crab traps (metal mesh) probably should be bought from a small local builder. I like the one chamber traps with 3 funnels and weighted with rebar. I don't need the bigger traps since I am not soaking for more than a couple of days, if I had a place and I was keeping them in the water extended periods of time I would get 4 funnel traps with a holding chamber. These are twice as big as my traps so I could only bring 1/2 as many with me on any given trip.
