Best bank-fishing spots within an hour of BR to take the kids?

Whatcha got? Give me a honey-hole. Last time I went down 61 and across the Mississippi River bridge near Vacherie on a bayou. The fishing was decent but the scenery sucked. Anybody have any ideas for a day of beginner fishing?

I saw a ton of people fishing along Airline between i-10 and Gramercy the other day. They must have been catching something.

Big bream. I stopped one day and made a few casts
Saw some catching catfish too

Anywhere else you might throw in a line. I don't really want to stand on the side of 61 with kids.

Head to Ramah exit in I-10 and then drive the gravel road south along the levee. There has to be some fifth along there. Bring live bait

Cross the dirt road OVER the levee and turn left. You'll be fishing the edge of the Atchafala Basin. Bring shiners for the sacalait.

Really. Any particular time of the year? Just drive down the levee and stop randomly?

Some of those old black guys that are always out there used to be customers of mine.
They'd always talk about filling ice chests with sacs.
Those old dudes have probably been fishing that area since they were kids. They know what time of year and where the good spots are.
They fished with live shiners most of the time.

I think a lot of them are fishing the moving water running threw the culverts in random places. There also is a wier under the interstate that the water moves around.
The thing is almost everything I see them fishing other than that boat launch under the bridge is technically posted.

Are the LSU lakes any good anymore. When I was a kid people were pulling big bass out of them including a 15lber.

What used to be the police camp on N Flannery is a great place to bring kids. 2 large lakes with mowed grass, docks, and plenty of fish to bring the kids to. Bring beetle spins, worms, hooks an sinkers and some extra chairs.
it is some form of a park now. Not sure of name.

That is it. May want to call and make sure not camps are going there for the day first though.
I used to fish there dang near every day when I was in HS back in early 90's. there were 4 ponds then and catching a 5 plus lb bass was pretty common

Great place unless you plan on cooking fish for dinner. I think they're catch and release only.

If the LSU lakes get any more silted in, that place will be good for crawfish season in a few years.
