You could just say you sold it. Kind of a dick move but legal.

Not so much a dick move IMO.

The issue is saying well I sold it to Jim Bob, then they contact him and so on and so fourth until they get to the latest owner. If you can't send them to the next link in the chain you are going to have a problem.
