For fishing stuff, is there a difference anymore? I can only go to one.

They’re the same thing now. There’s no difference. Just a matter of do you live closer to BPS or Cabela’s.

Cabela's has the edge for me because the parking lot is not a hot mess like Range Rd/Bass Pro

I find BPS has more fishing stuff. The fishing section at cabelas just seems like way less square feet than bass pro's.

You could ask 5 people and they would tell you different, just depends on if they had the thing they were looking for last. Slight edge to BPS on overall shelf space dedicated to fishing, but it’s a coin flip what they’ll have in stock. I check the website if there’s anything in particular Im looking for, it’ll tell you if either one has it.

Yea it's kind of a crapshoot. Cabelas has gone downhill hard since being bought. It was awesome before. I find they are consistently poorly staffed now, vs bps seeming to be more adequately staffed, and a bigger/cooler store to just walk around.

I just have been disappointed ordering rods without actually holding them to feel weight, action, balance, etc. Just wanting to go to the best stocked one while in town Saturday.

Both are very hit or miss on rods. They doubled down on the store brand stuff hard even before the merger and it’s rare for them to have more than a couple name brand rods on the shelf. That can change when they get a big order in, seems like they restock the more specialized stuff right before whatever the “season” is for that, usually spring for fishing. You can find deals on things that didn’t sell in that timeframe.
