I can't be the only one getting skunked out on the water for bass right now. Went out tonight and last night throwing a wacky rig and mixing in a buzz bait as the water calmed but not even a single dink to be seen.

Anyone having luck fishing for bass recently?

Maybe the fish are biting on the bottom?
Caught my limit yesterday no problem.

I feel like I threw a good mix at them this weekend, buzz bait, texas rigged, shaky head and wacky rig.

Slow down.

And then slow down some more.

We’re def post spawn. The wacky rig shallow isn’t what it was a month ago. My plan of attack now is switching to covering more water with a blades jig and dragging a Carolina rig off points and ledges. Frog fishing should heat up. Before long you’ll start seeing schooling fish so have something tied on for that.

It’s been really bad on the Shenandoah this year as well.

I'm a little bit north of most the folks on this board, but I've been every day this week and they are actively moving off their beds (Ned rigs are king on this little rock-bottom lake I'm at now) and are starting to school in shallower waters near a river mouth- seems like fairly decent sized fish in groups of about 3 (if someone gets a bite and the rest of the boat throws in that general area, they're pulling in 1-2 more)
Today was a bad day: mix of swim, jerk, and neds yielded a total of about 7 fish in 3 hours. Only 4 of them were small mouth and only mid-size at the biggest (bonus: first fish of the day was a brown trout which our group has now caught 2 in the last three years. Pretty rare on this lake, and the folks I went with who are a bit more familiar with it were stoked to see one). We are mostly just covering water and waiting for them to school deep (deepest part of the lake is ~40ft) which they will be doing in the next 1-3 weeks, sooner more likely- only found one down low today and didn't see much bait or birds.

A week ago Saturday we were getting nearly a hit every other cast fishing the beds with bottom lures and a lot of toothy predators broke us off just outside the smallmouth beds.

I'm sure that there are some regional differences, but from what I'm gathering from the more experienced folks around me, it's painfully slow now but should explode soon.

I caught ~7 tonight in an hour or so on a ned rig but I got skunked earlier in the day in the heat of the afternoon.

dragging a Carolina rig

Never fished with a Carolina rig in the past since most of my lakes have always had adequate cover but will be trying this out for next weekend. The lake has a max depth of 17 feet and I just found a topo map of the lake so I will be hitting the ledges and points.

Transition period? They will pattern in a few days if so...its frustrating though.

I guess I got lucky since I just wanted to find the max depth of my lake so I used Bing and searched for "Lake Woodlands Max Depth" and the first link was for a topo map.

Caught 6 Saturday on Lunker Lure. Only one over three lb.

Caught limit (10) the previous Saturday - all but two on topwater. Several over three lb., couple over four.

Couple weeks ago me and a buddy caught 17 on a TVA lake. Mostly on jerkbaits.
