Which fish move up shallow first? Males or females? Was fishing a shallow flat in our neighborhood pond and I caught a bunch of small bucks, but no females. Wondering if the males move up first and then the females follow, or is it the other way around and I missed the females?

The male fish move in and do all the work. Then the fat bitch moves in and lays the eggs.

Males first then the biggest females pick the best beds and areas. You know you hit the spawn right when both the female and male are still on the bed together.

# 09 Rapala with a 1 oz egg sinker in line. Toss it on the bed feed line and let the Rapala float up. Within a couple of twitches you will have male and female.
Definite Spawn winning pattern...if you are gonna fish beds go all the way. When you catch both run a batch and mark it as your own. It is Rick Clunn's 2 twist and a jerk zen pattern.
