Killed one in our blind this first split. Anybody else? Mallard hen. Knocked four down from a bunch of about 10. It was the last duck my dog retrieved of the four. It was my friends first banded duck. Its his second year of duckhunting, his brother has been hunting with me for almost 7 years and has yet to kill a banded duck. Will have more info on where it was banded when the info arrives. Its been about 10 years or more since the last one.

Not only is he gonna mount the hen, he is gonna mount a drake with it. Thought that was cool.

Congrats.

I had a GW Teal that was banded. Submitted the number via the web...and they mailed a certificate of where the duck was banded and all. Cool stuff. Bands on my call lanyard.

Lots of folks don't believe it but if you look close as they are landing you can see the bands shining in the sunlight.

On a bluebird morning, you are correct my friend. That's how I picked out my second mallard drake. I knew he was banded before I went to get him

I've heard that about geese. I only look to see what sex they are, drake or hen.

when them big mallards would come in to our pond by the hundreds we would sit there and only shoot green heads and go for bands 1st.

Thats some fun stuff right there

About 10 years ago my dad killed a speckled belly with a band on each leg and a neck collar.

Dumb goose

That means he had been caught at least twice probably three times.

If one wanted to you can get a spotting scope and find collars on geese while bunched up in a field. Every goose with a neck band has at least one leg band.

I have heard of folks doing this and after locating a neck band then shooting the goose with a high powered rifle to get the bands. I do not advocate this type of behavior.

Not to toot my own duck call, but I have about 10 bands. One from a woodduck and the rest mallards. Two of which had a band on each leg, and got a big sum of ten dollars for each mallard.

You're a lucky man. Alot of people never kill a banded duck. Must hunt a major flyway. Mine have all been like 5 miles from the MS river max. 2 banded in Canada one in upham, ND

I killed my only banded duck in November 2004 in SE la. It was a greenhead; the majority of Louisiana's bands are recovered from Central Louisiana coast and WEST to SW La fields and marshes.

After guiding many duck hunts I will let you in on a secret. He who has a dog has the bands!

Guarantee of getting a band. This is ridiculous.

Shame on any of my buddies if I ever found out one of them did this.
