I have a 1 acre pond with a dam breach, massive dam breach, I've gotten quotes from 12k to 84k and everywhere in between.

That’s a plus. All depends on how much dirt you have to move then. If you want to do it as cheaply as possible, talk to people you know and find out if they know any former operators of dozers/hoes. There are a lot more of them out there than you would think (most are former oilfield/pipeline guys). You could hire the operator direct and just rent the equipment. As long as the job isn’t too complicated, seems like a possibility.
If the people you talk to don’t know any operators, you could go visit the closest pipeline company/compressor station and talk to their guys. If you’re in LA you’re bound to be close by a station. I guarantee you they know a lot of good operators out of work, and a lot of them are starving for money.
These may be stupid ideas, so sorry if I wasted your time. Just trying to help

3 years ago, I was quoted $40k for 125yd long damn 25ft at its highest, and clearing of 3.5 acres of headlands in SW MS. Just to show that it depends on a LOT of factors. 2 quotes I got were much less than this board had me fearing, fwiw.
I have no way of know if he was right or wrong, just what he told me.

I wasn’t trying to call BS. He could be right. Real estate agents are at least as good as broken clocks. I was just highlighting how much it can vary based on location.

Gotcha, but he wasn't a real estate agent. He was a MDWFP Land agent.

Large....
Easily 10 foot across, 20 foot high at its highest easily, and 25-35 feet long.
ETA, I've since had 2 beavers show up. I'm letting them do their thing. Pond is up 2-3 feet already.

Haha. In that case, I’ll keep my thoughts to myself.
