The government is not going to take a single gun, they will ban ownership of all but a few firearms, and offer a amnesty period to sell them to the government. Possession of a banned firearm will be a felony with severe penalties. You can hide them, “lose them in a boating accident”, whatever, but there will be incentives for people to turn in illegal gun owners. Most of society will eventually see those possessing illegal firearms as being on the same level as crack dealers.

SS# is not required. I've never included my SS# (always get a pass without delay) when purchasing all those guns that were lost when I had a boating accident and they all sank to bottom of the GOM.

The 4473 is a god damned registry. Who does not know this? It’s a form with owners name, owners ssn, fire arm type and fire arm sn.

We need a form letter that can be C&P into an email. That way we have a unified message.

It is still one less available data point that they can use to search the database. Why make it easier for them to track you.

Most guns and ammo are paid for with credit cards, the FBI found many of the Jan 6th protestors by searching credit card records for hotel reservations iWashington DC, and airline tickets to there. Pretty easy to find who bought guns without a federal database.

100% bs story to drive up gun sales and prices. How many years has the NRA and Gun manufacturers reaped record profits off this? Don't be gullible.

As has been stated often, Illinois has the Nation's strictest gun laws & look what is going on there. Chicago's mayor claims the "large majority" of guns used in the city's shootings come from Indiana but provided no proof. How many of the 1.5 + millions of illegal aliens will end up with guns?

It takes about a generation to demonize a group.

Most extreme- Germany, the period between WW1 (1918) through the mid-1930's, used economic turmoil to make the Jews go from an outsider group, to "bad". I don't think communities wanted genocide, but they went along with removing them from their midst.

America- smokers; it's a legal activity. Doesn't intoxicate a person, simply a personal choice for an adult that had been accepted for centuries. Now, it's so socially taboo that it's listed as a reason on TV and movie ratings.

Also, drinking while driving. Go back and watch Smokey and the Bandit, Burt Reynolds does it, he's the hero and a great guy. Lots of other examples of it, it's just an activity. Used to be a ticket folks would laugh about, if you got one. Now it carries the stigma of a lot of felonies. You can lose your career with one.

Confederate stuff; as late as the early 80's, the Dukes of Hazzard had a car with a Confederate flag painted on the roof, named "The General Lee". Zero qualms given, they were just good ole Southern boys. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a very popular band (still is); they showed that gear. It was simply an emblem of the Southeastern culture, it was on a lot of state flags even. Nobody batted an eye at the time, they just understood you were from Alabama, Mississippi or Georgia, instead of Ohio or Texas. No bigger deal than Texans with their boots and hats. Now, you get put in a database for possible White Supremacist groups if you display it.

Give authorities time and the right media message, and they can make gun owners just as fringe. Look at what's already happening: the CDC talks of "gun violence" as a health risk. Some doctors' offices ask if you own guns. These are healthcare folks, their purpose should be to treat infections and injuries (sprains, broken bones etc). Firearms aren't in their scope of care. There is no actual health risks of owning, beyond the knowledge of how to handle lead etc (which can occur with anything involving metals).
And yet, here we are.
