What's the optic you have on it?

Aimpoint Micro H1 with a Tango-Down FDE cover over it, on a Larue QD mount. Actually got it “used” from a guy on AR15.com who didn’t know he had astigmatism until he got the optic. Was a complete stranger from Ohio and was a nice guy and gave me a good deal. I still haven’t changed the batteries and the thing is always on.

Edit: here’s a closer view

Going to those carbine schools where you are shooting a lot and fast? Yeah, going to see increased erosion in the gas port and chamber throat, just a fact of life with AR's. The gun will function fine until it doesn't, short cycling will be the symptom here.

Definitely had both fast and slow shooting pretty often in those courses... But seeing how smoothly it functions now I’m not sure when I will start to see short-cycling of the bolt carrier. I’m sure BCM does some good testing on their barrels before they leave the factory. Or if not, a new barrel with a new gas block and tube isn’t super expensive.

Depends on the gas system length and the original port size in the barrel. It will run fine as the gas port erodes and overgasses the BCG, might see some wear from that. Once the barrel port and gas block port have opened up to were there are significant seal issues, then you'll need some new parts. A basic gauge pin set isn't expensive, you can check the port size yourself which is a good idea no matter who you get parts from.

That thing would fly off every time it touched the ground! A little duct tape and good as new.
