What's your load data and how close can you get to real Blck Hills in terms of groups snd velocity?

Rifle is a Geissele 10.3 and reloads were on a Dillon RL550. 10 round groups from bags.

Black Hills 77gr TMK
Avg velocity: 2442
ES: 39
SD: 16.84
Group: 0.892 MOA

Load (LC brass, 24.7gr TAC, CCI 450, 77gr TMK, 2.260 COL)
Avg velocity: 2447
ES: 44
SD: 16.65
Group: 0.845 MOA

I got better groups at 24.3gr of TAC, but avg velocity was at 2371.

62gr soft points in .223 for home defense, or 62gr Remington Hog Hammer (Barnes TSX).

I wouldn’t use FMJs or green tips… too much penetration and not much expansion.

Always stick to brass case. Steel in AR-15's is horrible.

I've shot steel cased polymer coated ammo for years.

Not a single issue. Wolf is my choice.

It's dirtier but have never had an issue.

Now a 7.62 steel I installed an enhanced firing pin and improved hammer spring.

Yeah, the brass vs steel thing is overblown. If it's supposed to be a working defensive gun, I want 2-3 MOA and able to cycle anything I stick in a magazine, instead of sub-MOA and finicky.

It shouldn't hurt the extractor, I've seen some studies and steel cases are actually softer on the Rockwell hardness scale than some brass.

You can have trouble going back and forth, because steel has more blowback and can foul the chamber more, and brass following it (without being cleaned) can stick.

Mine have to be able to run Tula without burping, before I trust them. This might offend some purists, but I want a gun that can run whatever you can get.

I stocked up back in the day of whatever was available. Winchester, X-pac, 855 and 193, and various brands. I used ammoseeker to find the best deals. Hell I even used the cabelas back door from here to order a few pallets worth for wholesale price before cabelas shut down that loop hole.

I do have some steel but 85% of mine is brass

I shoot the steel out of only 1 AR I own all the rest I use brass

M193, either from Federal or Winchester/Lake City.

M193 is fine for home defense. Overpenetration is actually less than 9mm and buckshot.

$0.60 a round for genuine M193 isn't bad right now. I like to buy this because all the rounds are on stripper clips ($0.69 a round isn't a good deal but at least shipping is free).

There should be a lot code on the inside of the box you bought that looks something like this:

WLC22 = Winchester, Lake City, March (C = 3rd letter so 3rd month) 2022.

Looks like the Academy closest to me only has the green tip M855 for $120. I try to avoid M855.

For my 5.56? I like the federal fusion 62 grain.

For my 6.5 Grendel I like the hornady 123 grain SST. It’s a nasty hunting round that dumps all its energy on impact and doesn’t have much over penetration risk

Just bought 200 rounds of this for $0.62/rd including shipping. I’m guessing this is PSA’s brand as it had great reviews.

AAC 5.56 NATO 55gr.

That's fine as long as you're okay with it not being actual M193.

When I picked up my 150 rounds of Winchester 5.56 Green Tip ammo from BassPro yesterday there were only 7 boxes of .223 ammo on the shelves. This is why I ordered my ammo instead. I need to find a reasonable priced source to order from.

I'll buy from bucking horse outpost.

Reasonable and free shipping.

They also carry so much other stuff I'll order some of multiple calibers on the same order

The deals move around but I can typically find what I want from SG Ammo, Lucky Gunner or PSA. If you really want to pinch pennies use ammoseek, but I've never had the need to look beyond those three.

I like SGAmmo, they've been around awhile and have free shipping over $200. And I don't think they charge sales tax unless you live in Oklahoma where they're based.
