Apex trigger install on the 9mm shield
Been looking at swapping the factory trigger out with an apex kit. Watched a couple videos on the install and It doesn’t seem to difficult but sometimes those videos make things look easier than they really are.

Any tips? Pretty straight forward like the video shows? Tackle it myself or bring it to a gunsmith?

Very easy install, but removing the rear sight is a bit tough and easily the only somewhat challenging part.

Yeah one video I watched the guy damn near destroyed his rear sight trying to knock it out with a steel punch

I wrapped the slide in a towel with only the rear end exposed. C-clamped it to my bench top with the sight just hanging over the edge and beat it out with a brass punch.

re: Apex trigger install on the 9mm shield
If you've got a bench vise and are reasonably handy with tools there's nothing to it. As others have said, the only difficulty is the rear sight, and it may or may not be a pain. One of mine had to be drifted out with a punch/hammer, the other (an M&P C, not a Shield) I could push out with my fingers once I backed out the allen screw.

I did a Burwell trigger job on mine just to see how much difference it made prior to ordering an Apex. I ended up not ordering the Apex. I used a Worksharp ultra-fine belt with jeweler's rouge to put a mirror finish on the contact surfaces and reprofiled the sear a bit.

i did the apex trigger and set seer kit on my m&p 9mm and it went very smooth after watching the video showing how to do it

i wasnt aware they made one for the shield, last time i talked to them they said they had no plans to ever make on for the shield since its strictly a self defense weapon

I have a shield and I really like the trigger, it may be better to get use to the trigger. Put a few hundred rounds through it and develop some muscle memory for it.

I just got my Shield and I have not fired it yet. What is the deal with the trigger? My brother even asked if I tried the trigger before buying it. Of course I did not being I had to order it. Is it hard to pull or what?

There’s nothing wrong with it. It doesn’t feel as smooth as it could, but that’s it.

A mil-spec AR trigger is absolute garbage when it comes to feel, but it’s reliable. A lot of folks upgrade them but you don’t hear too many people talk about how horrible it is. M&Ps got a bad rap out of the gate and it just stuck for some reason.

Mine shield is 3-4 years old and I never shot it with the stock trigger. I ordered the trigger when I bought the gun.

Dry fire a gun with a good trigger and then the shield.

Mine was squishy and did not have a good wall.

How much would it cost to have an Apex trigger installed by a gunsmith?

The trigger group itself is $150. Another $50-100 would be my guess but I have no idea about right now.
