I was never judgmental, simply stating that I do not understand how one could do it.

6ft privacy. Took two days. Simple.

Paying someone $8000 to build you a fence that you can put up in a weekend is stupid. Most men these days would rather drink beer and watch tv, though.

Seems like a good opportunity to save $7k

6 ft privacy for $3.75 a ft? I don't believe you.

Eta: If you're truly Sulphur's finest I'm guessing that you stole the material.

Seriously, when did you build this fence? I have over 450’ to build and the posts alone would cost me about $1300.

Lol either you got the material for free or you're lying. I priced material today for my yard. 6ft privacy built with treated pine. Its $11.4 per linear foot. Total material cost for my yard is around 5k without counting gates.

Ive built multiple privacy fences before. Im not scared to work, and i rarely drink beer. I dont have the 5k to spend on a fence. I have to use what we have to rebuild our home. And before you say it, i have plenty of insurance coverage, but that doesn't mean insurance will pay it all out. Ask around calcasieu parish how many people are getting what they are owed.

Built in January of 2020. Made it through Hurricane Laura and Delta. Was quoted $7500, I paid $1800 for material, and returned almost $500 worth that I didn’t use.

I did posts every 8ft to save money, instead of every 6ft

I’m not going to talk shite about anyone with house damage, I also went through it. Not to change the subject, but Shelter Insurance hooked me up. Very easy to work with. $2k deposited into my bank account the day each storm hit.

Anyways, I posted below how I saved money. Built it last year. It’s not the best fence ever, but it looks/looked fine (until the hurricane knocked it off a bit). I borrowed an auger which helped. Hope all is well with the storms.

I would assume prices on lumber are inflated in this area right now.

Yeah, the number I gave you was with posts spaced 8’. A good friend of mine has a fence company. I spoke with him about the cost of materials recently. Even doing it myself would cost me almost $6k just in materials. Lumber is higher than giraffe puss right now.

Yeah I’m hoping it goes back to normal soon. I wanted to build a table but saw the lumber at lowes and couldn’t break the bank on lumber.

Ya, I can build a fence for $1,300.00. But it's not gonna 6 ft wood fence to keep a dog in. If you come back and say you could, well you full of shite. Post a picture of this 350 ft 6ft wood fence. No fricking way you spend that little on 350 ft fence.

Just a quick search on Home Depot & Lowes
350 ft of post 8 ft apart you would need 43 post x 14.98 = $644.14
350 x 3 for runners you would need 87 2x4x12 = $1,292.00
350 foot of pickets would need 700 x 1.95 each $1,386.00

so see no fricking way you built a 6 ft privacy fence for 1,300.00

I did 2 runners, posts 8ft apart. This was before lumber prices sky rocketed.

Built it for ˜$1300, hurricane messed one side up, insurance gave me $7k to get a new fence, I spent ˜$75 fixing it myself.

I want to say pickets were in the $1.40-1.60 range when I did it. By no means does it look like a professional did it, but I saved a ton of money.

In your math you spaced the posts out 8ft and then did the cost for 12ft runners. I hope you hire someone to build yours for you, unless you like wasting lumber

As joe would say, Come on Man

Never mind 8 ft apart post, never mind 2 or 3 runners, never mind rental of post hole digger, never mind screws or nails.

Let’s just analyze the pickets based on you pricing you quoted just for pine pickets

quote:

1,40-1,60

You have now admitted it would be $1,000.00 give or take a few $$$ just for the pickets, but you built the whole fence for $1,300.00. Ya right

I’m just telling you what I paid out of pocket, spent $1800 total and returned almost $500 worth of material.

Best investment I’ve ever made due to the insurance pay out.

So your argument here is based on what you paid out of pocket, not on actual cost. Good argument.

You do realize your out of pocket payment means absolutely nothing in this discussion?

Your insurance paying XXXX amount doesn't mean shite to anyone else discussing the cost of building a fence.

Go get a 10' x 10' x 6' at Lowes, Tractor supply, Home Deport for around 300.00. Easy to put together. Tie the fricker up when unsupervised outside

You know, OP, if you look into this route and think it might be workable I have onne of these stainless steel fences bought from tractor supply a few years ago that I might even be willing to donate to the cause if you came and picked it up. Lemme know. This hits all “the feels”

Ill definitely keep that in mind. Im trying to avoid keeping her pinned up. And im not sure the family we are living with will allow that solution, but we will see.

I spent $1300 on lumber pre hurricane. I fenced in my 350ft backyard completely with the lumber.

Triggered that I built a cheap fence.

Reading comprehension is hard. That would explain why you can’t build a fence yourself, though.
