Your 1500 was surely overloaded on payload if you were towing a Ranger crew with camping gear plus stuff in the bed plus you and your family or some fat friends.
3/4 ton is what you need. Yeah the 1 ton is almost the same price but it’ll have a stiffer leaf spring pack to punish you when your unloaded.
