I'd like to learn to ride a motorcycle. How difficult is it to learn? I've never even driven a dirt bike.

Not too bad. unless you raise up after tucking at @ 140. Nothing like becoming an instant windsock.
She's soon getting a 1" lowering and a 240 out back. Thought about trading her in for a Street Glide with the 103 c.i. motor, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
Mama don't mind the shorter trips on the back but anything over an hour and she's beyotching. You know what they say... mama's not happy, NOBODIES happy! LOL

Why not wait till light, blind drivers see better then.
It is only 4:00pm here my time now. When I said, "night", I really meant early evening, such as before the sun goes down(after dinner).
I do love to ride late at night in the dark though. It's my favorite time, except that's when all the bugs come out and splatter your windshield.

Super easy. Just find a guy that owns one, learn from him. Or, I do not know Alabama systems, but out West just sign up for a safety class with them. They are part of the DMV. They provide the bikes. They would teach you all in either a weekend long class, or a one day Saturday class. At end, you take small driving test, you pass. Go to DMV, get your permit with it. Then take your written test. You pass= bike endorsement. Then, buy gear, and shop for a bike.
Research all diff kinds, styles, such as Cruiser/Touring/Sports-Race or Race Replica/all purpose/Adventure-duel sport/dirt bike. You do not need a endorsement for the latter. All the pics of bikes on this site so far have been cruisers(think Harley type)except one touring one. Both classes really are more for older guys, who want more comfort. Race/Sports bikes are for younger guys as they are not very comfortable- but they are super fast. A all purpose or Adventure bike is a great first bike for a guy.
Just partner up with a guy that knows bikes well, or you can ask, and have him search craigs list with ya. If you get that itch when seeing others ride, but don't jump on yourself, you are only going to kick yourself down the road. Just try it, riding is more of a thrill then sex! (especially track bikes)

Oregon sure is pretty to ride through. I haven't gotten the chance to ride through the best parts though. I started out one morning at Goose Lake and ended up here.

Have you ever been here?
The high desert is a different kind of pretty than what you guys are famous for. It sure was a quiet ride. I probably rode for a couple of hours and only saw a couple of cars. I did make awfully good time though.

First of all. Nice bike bro! I own a sports tourer as well and those are my favorite type.
Na, I have not been to that Goose Lake yet. But I have been a couple of times to the little town of Lakeview just a couple miles North of it.
You are right. The Oregon rap we get for beauty, all green, glorious Mnts is only on the Western Side, where I live. Oregon has a little of everything, rain forests, Coast, Thick Heavy Rain Mnts, Desert, High Desert, Plains, dryer Mountain ranges. And your right, there are some great places to ride that are not as Green like the famous North Western Oregon. I have not got a chance really to go out riding in the high deserts because they are quite far out there. I have explored most of the state much, but not on a bike yet. My bikes seats are not comfortable enough yet. I need to send a seat into Sergeants and have them redue it for comfort. lol
But ya, I am familiar with the area you are talking about. Hitting those Canyons can be a blast I am sure. I assume you are from Cali. The spot I really want to explore on a Bike is on the North Cali Coast near Oregon in the Smith River area and other Redwoods area's between The Oregon boarder on the Coast down to Mendocino Cali area.
Either way, I bet your trip up around Goose Lake was a blast. I envy you for making it! I just need a more comfortable seat to attempt that.

Thanks for the compliments on the bike.
I'm from Louisiana though, not California, although northern California was the most luring section of highway I got a chance to ride. All of the redwoods along hwy 1 and around Garberville were really nice. Hayfork on hwy 36 was a nice ride too. I saw some areas that were prettier, but none that really touched your soul like northern Cali though.
As far as comfort, I bought a Corbin heated seat and that made a lot of difference. My original seat was terrible. Seargent should be even better than the Corbin though, so you should be pretty set up.
I'd sure like another chance to get back out ya'lls way, but it's probably going to be a few years before that happens.
Edit And that pic was from Hells Canyon at Oxbow (Idaho Oregon border)

A cross country motorcycle trip is on my bucket list. Last August we went to Sturgis, SD and road around that area and into Wyoming. Got to see Mount Rushmore which I never thought I'd do. What a beautiful area. I'd love to go back.
