Anybody wear RAX hiking boots?

My and my buddies may go out to Tunica Hills a couple of times this year, and I need some lightweight, but comfortable waterproof boots. I've never really hiked before(so any advice there would also be appreciated). I actually stopped on the RAX Wild Wolfs because I like doing the look of them. Apparently they are also very lightweight and comfortable and relatively cheap.

Those are high-tops. I wear 10" lace-ups in the woods because I like my ankles

If you want quality hiking boots, get the "looks" factor out of there.
Oh, and I don't believe you are going to get quality hiking boots in the $50-80 range. Go to an outfitter type store and try different boots on. Different brands fit completely different. Some are wider than others. Spend a decent amount of money and you can get quality boots that, with your amount of use, will last for many years and provide comfort.

I like my ankles to not get bit by snakes

All I said was that's why I initially clicked on them. I have foot problems, so I need something both lightweight and comfortable. And I'll strictly be in the south a handful of times a year. Not dropping $200. If I head up to the mountains, I may invest in different pair.

That may very well be true--I am certainly no expert. But there has to be something out there that both fits my needs and that I like the looks of.

Get some Altra Trail runners and proper socks.
Most hiking boots are garbage for hiking. My feet have never felt better walking plenty miles since I've tossed the Merrels in the trash.
Just what I do. Footwear is very different from person to person.
But don't buy new boots and go hiking 6 miles in the hills without putting some miles on them first. You will be miserable.

Darn tough is he best I've found.
Feetures are good if you want synthetic. I've tried a few pair.

Is that a brand? I appreciate a straight-forward brand name, like "Strong as frick Coffee," "Holy shite! Habanero Sauce," or "Are You fricking Serious These Things Are Really This Big and Black Erotic Oscillators."

Yep, Darn tough.
Made in Vermont I believe. Merino wool. Although they have some synthetic blends now.

Would I want wool socks hiking around Tunica Hills and the like?

They have different weights. Anything more than the Nordic ones, and you'll be sweating it up. On me, anything shorter than boot socks falls down

I wear them year round. Even at work with steel toes.
The ones I get are just above the ankle. They are running socks, fairly thin, not thick and cushioned. I never wear the heavy hiking one.
