Have seen groups of tarpon surfacing in Lake P outside the mouth of the Tchefuncte myself, but to wager a guess of when that last was would be a WAG at best, it's definitely been at least 15 years, likely around 2000-2002 timeframe when still in high school.

That is the biggest issue

Not many people want to spend the day fishing for Tarpon when you can sink the boat with snapper, etc

Even for the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo, there aren't that many people actually fishing for Tarpon. Like literally 25 boats at most. And it's one of the better areas to target them with one of if not the biggest event named after it.

Sure they are in Lake P. They've been seen in Cocodrie and other places too. It's just not with enough regularity to garner any interest. And Tarpon fishing on days when you don't see fish is BORING. It's not even like pulling baits....it's just sitting there floating around drifting at 1.5 knots in the August heat.

I would be willing to bet a $1000 dollar cash prize for the largest caught & released in Lake Pontchartrain would generate a lot of interest. You could have a Jack Crevalle, Shark, and Gar category too which will give everyone a lot of action. You may not catch a tarpon but you will certainly catch something and its not boring. Orleans Parish city limits tourney would be awesome.

That would be awesome. I hooked 1 tarpon in my life outside the rocks of SW Pass, fishing for reds on the bottom. Thought it was a shark, then it jumped and my line went slack. Man, I wish I could have landed it

I pulled it from a Facebook group, only info was the picture. I don’t know the actual website the data is posted.
