Will be my first lawn equipment I buy... been in a condo for a while. I'm looking into the combo trimmers and of course there are several to choose from. I know that echo, stihl and husqvarna are the better brands. The yard isn't too big and I don't think I will need to use of 3 or 4 separate tools. I looked at a few at the big box places and HD has echo and Lowes has Husqvarna. Stihl is just too damn expensive right now, I am moving and renting a home for now until i can one to buy so I don't want to drop a ton of money at this moment. There is an echo with a (21.5cc) engine, should that be sufficient for what I would need?

I buy the one tool for the one chore. Not a fan of combo tools.

I have a Toro power head with some of the Craftsman attachments (edger, weed wacker, blower). It works well for me. I have around a 1/3 acre yard with a fenced back yard.

I looked at that one as well.... wasn't sure what to think about with having to buy other brand tools, that being said I assume one company probably makes all of it.

I am in the market for an edger. I've never had one, but it is time. I am also in the market for a new weed eater. Mine was kamikazeed across the yard a couple of weeks ago and still hasn't recovered. I had to bother a buddy's weed eater last week. I will keep an eye on this thread to see if there is a combo weed eater/ edger that may fit my needs. I can say that I will never purchase another Ryobi power tool again however. Husqvarna or Stihl are now my only two options for power tools.

if there is one thing I found out it is this.

I'd like a stihl, but man don't really want to drop $500-$600 on some yard tools right now. I'm not OT rich and I'm moving.... trying to keep this down a bit cause I'll have many other expenses with this move.

The toro I got came with a straight weed wacker. The model I got is much easier to change the pull cord because it is attached at the rear. It also has an exrta rear bearing that the craftsman doesn't have. Built like the echos and such.

I have the edger, straight and curved shaft trimmer heads, blower, polesaw, brush trimmer (converreted line trimmer), and tiller attachments. I buy what ever head is on sale for 100 every 4-5 years. If the top of the line head would warranty for 20 years I would buy one but for 500 it isn't worth it.

Gonna buy the hedge trimmer attachment soon

I despise yard work more than most other things in this world. It is 100 times worse when you go to work with a tool and it doesn't work properly. I hate being hot, and it is unavoidable not being hot doing yard work this time of year in the South. The only consulation I can think of is using tools that work every time, even it if it means paying more for that particular tool.

Get an echo straight shaft "weed-eater" and a separate walk behind edger. None of this interchangable bullshite.

I like the combo rigs. I have most all of the attachments including a tiller and a hedge trimmer. I seem to go through a power head about every two years but, they have a lot of hours on them considering how many things I use it for. I prefer Troy Built. They are strong and cheap enough that if it fails, you just replace it and don't worry about having to try and repair it.

Ethanol free gas will greatly extend it's lifespan.

The Stihl Combi system stuff works very well. The bush trimmer is a beast. I have string, edger and bus trimmer.
