Nice. I know a guy who fishes the Coosa River and catches a lot of big spots like that. You'd only be able to land about 1 out of 10 6lb spots where I fish, maybe less than that. Hell, a 2lb spot where I fish pulls drag and will get you hung up a lot of times. My old man fishes them 5 days a week when the water is right.

Freaking this, me and a buddy had a 100+ day a couple years ago, only one largemouth.
Fun day, just not much weight...

Stupid deep. The average depth at lanier is 60 foot. Our deepest area is around 200. The average depth for them year round is 25 feet. They are coming shallow now which is 10-15 for the most part. Summer they are 25-30, best part of the winer, I catch them on the bottom in 45-55 foot of water...

Its a stupid lake.

All the lakes on the Coosa are unreal for Spots... They are some big ones in most of those lakes..

I would put Lanier at the tip also, but Keiwee a close second

Of course I grew up fishing Lake Martin alot, so that needs to be in the mix as well.

Unfortunately it doesnt have the blueback herring in it that Lanier and Keowee have that makes them spots so damn fat.

North Arkansas/South Missouri lakes like Bull Shoals and Norfork Lake have some very nice spotted bass.

I could always pattern them in the heat of summer on shear rock walls where the water is about 20 to 30 feet deep. Catching them on top with a chrome/blue back baby chug bug...

Legit.

They will come after a topwater bait from way deep. Hit like a freight train.

A supposed 5lb spot caught in LA that the guy didn't know would have been the state record (claims he weighed it then let it go)

and the results of a recent float down the little missouri river in Arkansas

I'm not calling him a liar, but I've put one on a scale that was 3.5 and it appeared to be much larger than that. Maybe he's just a rookie hoister? Pic doesn't look like a 5lb spot.

I would have to agree with you. It doesn't look 5 lbs, but perspective in pictures is funny

A spot shaped like that is probably gonna have to push 22-23" to be 5 lbs. I don't know this for sure, because I've never caught one 5 lbs, just speculating. A 19 3/4" fish I caught weighed 3.5 lbs. That fish looks closer to 18-19" than 22-23". Again, I'm just going off the appearance in the picture.

hey coco
when you do a float in the rivers
where do you put the yak in and take it back out?
always been interested in doing something like that in my kayak but never had enough info on doing it to feel comfortable about it

Oh I completely agree with you. Especially because that is a 4" bait in the mouth of the spot.

Usually access under bridges or knock on doors till you find a property owner willing to let you use their land. A lot of times people are willing to let you since you aren't taking anything from their property, just using it for access. Either need two trucks, or someone who will drop you off and pick you up.

Assuming that's a regular ole zara spook that fish is no more than 18 inches.

5lb class Kentucky's are fatter than that fish.

didnt realize this. Ive caught some 3.5-4lbers on the west side of the Atchafalaya. and whoever said the Tangi... my buddy catches some nice 3lb spots up there. I think that state record is so low bc people dont realize it is that low (or even a separate category for that matter). hell most people dont even realize there are different size/creel limits on them
