I have a 2016 F250 that has a dead battery after two days. I bought a brand new battery on Thursday afternoon and it is dead as shite this morning. Besides the alternator what else could it be? Is there something running to draw power when the key is turned off possibly?

Inb4 truck nuts pulling too much power

Test the alternator it’s super easy, read voltage with a multi meter, you’ll need another person to help. Truck off battery should be in the 12s volts, while running it should be in the 14s.

Trouble shooting on cars is all about process of elimination. Start with battery, then move on. You’ll need to make sure the battery is fully charged to start the process.

If not alternator, possibly a parasitic draw of some type. Many YouTube videos on how to check for parasitic draw on an auto battery. Just internet search “checking parasitic draw with a multimeter”. If you have a parasitic draw, the diagnostic procedure won’t tell you where the draw is coming from, that requires some different diagnostic procedures to trace it.

Alternator is fine. Something else is pulling power. Had def heater replaced 2-3 weeks ago, dont know if that would have anything to do with it. Looks like Ill have to wait 3-4wks for a place in line at the dealership where it was last serviced

The logical place to start if you never this issue before. Check your owners manual and to see if you can find what circuit in fuse box that the def heater is on and you should be able to check for parasitic draw on that circuit with a multimeter with a mAmp setting.

I think you can get it tested at Auto Zone.

An Alternator is an easy fix, I put one in my wife's Camry in about 15 minutes and I can't fix anything. It was three bolts and replace to belt over the pullies

They have rebuilt ones at most part stores for $65.00.

Pull the fuse for the heater and see if it still does it.

Do you still need that heater right now?

(Diesels are not my thing so ignore me if this is just stupid).

You got a link to these $65 alternators or do you have to use your time machine to get that price

If the vehicle was starting the last time you turned it off and now won’t start, it is not the alternator. Ump the vehicle off and drive to auto zone where you can get them to test both the battery and the alternator.

I bought one for a Camry "rebuilt" and I swear it was $55-$60 but that was several years ago

My point was there's no need to pay a mechanic $500 to do a job you can do in 15 minutes

Just search “rebuilt F250 alternators” and you’ll come up with quite a few.

And they'll tell you right off you have a bad battery.

And 75% of those rebuilts are big piles of crap. If you decide to go that route, before you leave with it, have the store test it. If they can't test it, go get one elsewhere. Any reasonable mechanic will tell you that those rebuilts can't be trusted straight out of the box.

Sounds like it probably isn't the alt anyway. I was going to ask if the OP had installed any accessories recently. I would put my dollar on a ground that is bad from the heater installation.

No accessories, just the heater exchanged. Im guessing the dealership that installed it wont cover it if it is related to that heater tho

I didn't actually mean strictly accessories. A heater replacement, if done incorrectly could cause electrical problems (not saying it actually did though).

If you used a dealership, they should definitely cover their work, however that is another story. Like someone said, disconnect the heater, jump or recharge the battery, then see if it does it again. Tracking down a parasitic draw can be a long process ($$).
