ya'll forgot the most important part of the hunt. You need to get 2 coonass women to haul the 1000 lb gator into the boat. What a crock of sh!!t. Try hauling 1/2 ton over the side of a boat by yourself or with 1 person and not sink that flat boat.

Big hooks work better than hanging baits high when it comes to reducing small gators caught.
we buy chicken 10 days to 2 weeks early and put in fridge. It will smell ripe.
don't set lines during a high pressure.
after killing them, shoot one extra time for good measure. Learned the hard way
22 with high velocity works well. 38 on 9 plus

I use a 12/0 hook and braided line. Can go to a 14/0 hook if you want. I order all my stuff from the Fish Net co in Jonesville since I order a lot ( I catch about 75 or so gators a year). I put a piece of chicken and beef melt on each line. Hang as high as you want. A big alligator can jump out the water really high. I'm usually about 2 1/2 feet over the water though just trying to fill tags. If you call the fish net company they will tell you what most people order ( 12/0 hooks and twine). The biggest advise I can give you is use plenty of line (about 30 ft). If the alligator can't get under the water once hooked a lot of the time they get up on the bank and that's when they straighten the hook. Good luck. Oh. Elm Hall is by Verret? If so Should have plenty of trees to hang lines from but if you can get a couple poles that's helps when you see a spot without a good tree.

Almost forgot the most important tip, tape their mouth closed. Not only in case they come back to life, but when they die the flap in their throat opens and everything in their belly comes pouring out. Chit is rank!!!! I've ruined several pairs of deck shoes gator hunting, stinky phuckers!!!

True statement there!!! Had a buddy take a thigh off of a hook that had been hanging for two days and slap another buddy in the face with it, the damn thing was black and stanky!!!! They ended up battling it out in the water, funny chit!!!
