had a decent amount of 9mm and 5.56 this morning. got there early but they had at least 50 people in line, maybe 100 at 9. hard to believe we have to do this to get decent price ammo.

I had a long post about buying when times are plentiful, but after reading it it came across as condescending.
We are screwed way longer this time because the incoming administration will probably be able to do exactly what they clearly stated they would do.

I typically keep a fair amount of ammo on hand but I'm not doing any recreational shooting right now due to all of this. I did a little inventory last night.
I only have about 25 rounds of .45 though.

I haven't been looking in a while. We do have an Academy about 2 miles from the house.

Don’t even go unless you can get there at least an hour before it opens.

Couple years ago, I would have been just like you; but luckily(?) I had a wake-up call on ammo not too long beforehand...
I have a couple old .32 acp guns, stuff like a Savage 1914 etc. I had sourced some cheap .32, and found online that prices were way better than local. I had a pretty decent list of places to get some.
When the surplus Beretta 81's hit the market for $200, I bought one the first day- and then looked at getting extra ammo.
It FLEW that day. I had 5 places go out of stock while I was trying to put stuff in my cart. Barely landed on the 6th in time, was able to put 11 boxes in and check out.
That was the 6th cheapest place, and all had stock 20 minutes earlier. And this was Blazer aluminum, instead of Fiocchi or PPU brass like the other places (runs fine btw). Lowest had been $10.39, I got the Blazer for $11.49. An hour later, everything was over $20 a box if you could find it.
Luckily for me, I already had some Fiocchi and PPU, but it wasn't a huge amount.
I learned that day, if .32 acp could do that for 1 batch of surplus pistols, something like 9mm or .45 acp would too, if there was ever a panic.
So when the toilet paper run began, I looked far and wide, remanufactured, steel, whatever. If it was a decent price, I bought it ASAP. Just barely beat the rush that came later.

I try to keep a few hundred rounds for every gun I own at all times. I just didn't realize I was so low on 45 until I couldn't find it anymore. I started randomly buying ammo every couple of months years ago after the 22 shortage.

I have a decent amount in the main calibers I have. I standardized on 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 12g, and 9mm. I have a couple of other oddball calibers but nothing I would ever need. Still looking for more 9mm and 7.62x39 though. Academy had some on the shelf a while back should have bought it all! Still hoping prices get back to around $300 per 1000.

How many people are lining up in front of your local academy stores? Got here this morning about 15 minutes before opening and there is 9 people in line. Not as many as I was expecting. Now hopefully they will have something.

Which Academy? Did they have any 9mm?

Yea, I didn’t get one though. Apparently their shipment was 4 boxes of 9mm. Wtf is that

I asked yesterday and the guy laughed and said people will be disappointed as all they're getting was .22

I went to Academy in Collierville, TN yesterday and they had a sign on the door saying no ammo until 1/21/21. I was in there in October and they randomly had some .223 behind the counter, but I was only allowed to buy 1 box of 90
