Been living in the piney woods where the bachmans once roamed plentiful, since 1980.

Today i saw the first black bachman ever, in Money Hill Estates, St Tammany. White face, white socks.

We have quite a large population of them in Pearl River County. Those suckers get huge.

Money hill has a lot of Fox squirrels of all color varieties. They run around the golf course like crazy.

Oktibbeha County, MS has a good population of fox squirrels. Used to see them outside of my apartment in college all the time. Never saw any in Oxford growing up.

Kind of a hijak but I saw a black squirrel yesterday in St Gabriel. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in the wild.

These particular squirrels are the Bachman species. White face, white socks.

We had some red phase Bachman fox squirrel that used to hang out in the yard at our camp near Folsom. They were off-limits to hunting, but we think some butt-head trespassed and poached them; we found some empty 20 gauge casings in the yard and the squirrels were gone.

They are all over the Robert Trent Jones golf courses in Prattville and Dothan Alabama. They are really big. Much bigger than the fox squirrels back home in Lafayette.

There is a town in Tennessee called Kenton that has a large population of white squirrels. They have a festival every year celebrating them.

That’s pretty wild. Like the thread a while back about the herd of white deer at the old Seneca Army Depot.

This thread actually made me realize I was seeing Bachman’s not just standard fox squirrels in Starkville.

I would lay off hunting them. Let them recover.
