There’s barely any difference between a 308 and 7mm08.

I guess folks could point out some technical things that might be a big deal for some niche issue, but a guy who’s just deer hunting probably couldn’t tell the difference.

The 7mm08 has a little less recoil. That’s the only thing I can really notice.

I'm currently in Edmonton, Canada. The local Wal-Mart has three boxes of 7mm-08 on the shelf along with just about every other caliber.

Guess its not in high demand here.

Plenty of .308 and 300 Win Mag that I shoot but I have plenty already.

I’ve never understood the appeal except in a youth rifle.
folks are seeing now the downsides of specialty rounds that aren’t produced in mass quantities

There will never be a time where 308 is not available

There was an ammo site in Canada you couldn't order from in the states but it showed they had everything and lots of it even during the height of the ammo shortage.

It just so happens that my 7mm08 is a Rem Model 7 youth.

I love it…short & light.

7mm08 just happened to be the largest caliber it was available in.

Its impossible to argue against 308 as a general purpose north American caliber. Big enough to kill everything, can be had in very light or very heavy rifles, probably the most ammo selection available out of anything, mild recoil, generally not ammo-picky.

7mm-08 can be had with some lighter recoil loads. Its a great deer caliber, but there's very little real world difference between them unless you start talking bigger game, where the .308 has better ammo choices or kids, where 7mm-08 probably performs a little better with lighter bullets. Its really splitting hairs.

Yep. I have some 308 reduced recoil for my kids. Like 30% reduced.

Need to sight rifle in as it's low.

Throw on a good muzzle brake and a 308 feels like a baby 243. It's nothing, even with 175 grain hunting rounds.

If you don't reload, everyone should be switching to Nato rounds now.

Muzzle brakes have no place on hunting rifles. Way too much noise.

Only if you are talking noise for the shooter.

Otherwise, its literally the same noise just in a different direction than a bare muzzle.
