First, generally speaking they all shoot about the same FPS no matter the size. 1100-1350. Not much difference there.

A 410 tss 3 inch with # 9 shot has something like 285 pellets.

A 12 gauge 2oz load of #4 is 270ish pellets.

I still use my 12, but this idea that the 410 is anywhere close to being inadequate is simply incorrect.

Now you get like 900 #9 pellets in a 12 gauge 3.5 tss shell but that’s completely unnecessary.

Hell yeah it’s getting close to turkey season. Get to hear all kinds of Tut Hill ridiculousness

Most people I know that shoot a ..410 for turkeys will let you know within 10 seconds of conversation that they shoot a .410. Nothing wrong with a .410 but that’s been my observation

Turkey hunting is going in the wrong direction also. It’s gotten to where folks brag about how far they can shoot them rather than how close they can get them.

just don't see how someone could justify shooting a 410 when you can shoot a 20 with 2x the pellets.

It's called a personal preference... it's called their choice... maybe they were gifted the 410... maybe it was handed down and has sentimental value.

.338 win mag recoil ain't got shite on 12ga anti aircraft shells.

I just never understood why 2oz of 5 shot was needed for shooting a turkey in the head.

I'm not a turkey hunter. Genuine curiosity.

It’s not needed. They exist because people will buy them. However, you’ve only got to shoot one time, why limit your BBs / pattern density. That’s the main reason I switched to TSS.

I see plenty of people using 3-1/2” shells for ducks, which is completely unnecessary, but people will always be willing to spend money on the “best” possible thing they can use.

For some, after you’ve killed a pile of turkeys it’s no longer fun shooting them @ 50 yds with 3.5” shells. It’s not needed. I won’t pull the trigger unless a turkey is inside 30 yds, but I also like them close and that’s the fun for me whether I kill or not. And while I haven’t shot a turkey with a 12 gauge in years, I do rotate the 20 in.

Having said that, a .410 is deadly inside 30 yds and I’ve absolutely stoned them with it.

Ive been in the blind with them many times. Seems like torture.

Do you have to use non-toxic shot for turkeys?

I always imagined that when I did finally go id just use my 12ga and some high brass 6 shot and shoot it in the head

Non-tox isn’t necessary.

I’m sure you’d have no problem with high brass #6 out to 30 yards. You’d want to pattern them first though to know the capabilities.
