6.5 x 300 WBY

140 grain VLD Hunting Bullet

2.7+ @ 100 yds
7.7- @ 400 yards
20- @ 500 yards

That is awesome ballistics. You really might not need anything other than standard reticles to shoot at hunting ranges.

I could be wrong but I think the RUM has the best ballistics of the group but dont think its that much of a difference.

A friend who hunts close by, has a 300 RUM and shoots 130 grain Barnes TTSX. We both hunt CRP and have long shots down tree rows.

Not sure, but that thing screams. I’ve been shooting a 180 grain Ballistic Tip for whitetail in my 300, but I’m running 185 VLDs this year. It seems that if you want to shoot a 130 grain bullet, you should just shoot a 6.5 or 7mm.

Damn you, I was all set on the rifle I am having built at the end of this season being a 300 Win Mag and now you have me completely rethinking it again.

Sorry for the dumb question, how does one go about having a gun built? Go to a gunsmith, like a bespoke rifle instead of "off the rack"?

Could not agree more, however that 7mm does not make his dick look as big.

There are custom and semi-custom gun builders. Most buyers have specific components that they want.

I think it is going to be a lot closer than most folks think, we seem to play down to the level of the competition a bit this year.

We hunt different properties, but both hunt roads/right of ways in CRP. Shots can get long and I'm sure he's trying to get as flat a trajectory as possible.
I happen to like the wind bucking ability of the 180 grain bullet in a fast .300.
Some are running a 110 TTSX in a .270. It screams and is flat. This may be what we all eventually go to, but right now, I'm in the middle, to heavy for caliber school.
