Can NEVER go wrong with 6.5mm

Build it. I love that caliber on paper. Never shot one though

Go .260 Remington. It's an easier case to find (.308 Win) and is a very stable round.

But if you feel the need to go .264, get on it.

Yep, I got one. was my Dad's gun, He gave it to me When I started deer hunting in 1980.

You can still find ammo it's expensive, like 40 bucks a box, My buddies at the camp use to call it the cannon, No mistaking the sound, Never missed a deer with it. They went down when it hit em.

Use to make 2 rounds for it 110grn and 140, i use 110 mostly, cut the brige of my nose many times shootin theat bad boy. recently been thinkin of buying some ammo for when TSHTF. Its a good gun

Today with the intrawebs, finding ammo won't be a problem. You might not find much locally but you will be able to find ammo.

I've never shot one but have read up on them a little and a friend of mine ones one. Kick arse round for most anything that walks in north America.

Im thinking about rebuilding my STW. I'm just not in love with it. Don't know if I want to build another STW or go 264. Leaning 264, but I already have dies, brass, and bullets for the STW. Hummmmmmmm......

One of my friends has one. I believe his is a Remington 700 "Classic." Nice looking gun. Shoots pretty good. I once worked up a reduced recoil load for it so his adult daughter could deer hunt w/ it. Used a 129 gr Hornady bullet and IMR 4198 powder at about 2700 fps. Was a pretty accurate load. As you prolly know, it's just the 7 Rem Magnum necked down to 6.5 caliber. Notorious for burning out the chamber/bore, but you're prolly familiar w/ that already since you have a 7 STW!

That round must be screaming out the barrel! That's probably close to 22-250 velocities.

Yeah, I'm familiar with it burning up barrels. I really don't mind that so much, as long as it's more forgiving then the STW. I hate muzzle brakes and don't feel like being stomped by the STW anylonger. Don't really like magnums in general, but feel like I need a burner to fill some "gap" in my collection.

Just kicking ideas around.

Got a Win70 in .264. Does a good job, loaded some 129SST over H4350 last night for it. I load it down to about .270 velocities or a little higher just because I don't want to burn more powder than I need.

Not really a lot of difference between it and a 7mm mag, unless you just want something different. I've found new Win. brass at BPS before.
