I personally like the reliability of those 99-06 trucks. I had 99 Sierra with 286K before i sold it and only did routine maintenance. I bought my FIL's 06 Silverado 1500 HD and I had to pull the motor and replace the cam and lifter as that was a somewhat common problem on those 6.0 motors. I could have driven it a while like that but i had the means to yank it out and fix it, so I did.

I have nothing but great experience with those GM trucks from 99-06. Hope your son does as well.

I had an 04 Z71 and sold it with 165k on it. I replaced the fluids as directed, the brakes when needed, a set of catalytic converters and the instrument cluster.

The engine sounded and performed the same the day I sold it as the day I bought it.

I would have kept it but I didn’t want to move it across the country and I inherited one with less mileage.

Great truck, my favorite of all time.

Forgot about this. I sent mine off to get rebuilt and LEDs put in when a motor was sticking on

2005 Z-71 owner checking in, I bought mine in 2006 with 9,000 miles so I would say I was only owner.

I'm at 180,000 miles today and had transmission work at about 125,000. (had mine repaired for $1,100.00).

I need to upgrade but won't. If he takes care of it you will be fine.
