A Tuscaloosa County deer breeder and his associate have been charged federally for transporting a whitetail deer from Indiana to Alabama, authorities announced Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Birmingham charged Lewis H. Skinner, 56, and his associate, 56-year-old Franklin Banks Loden, both of Northport, with knowingly transporting and receiving the captive-bred and raised deer in interstate commerce. The charge was announced U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town and Alabama's Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division Chief of Enforcement Michael Weathers.

I hope they both get Chronic Wasting Dick, ignorant assholes

while they are at it maybe they could take a flight to Europe and bring over some Mad Cow disease.

In addition to having no deer, I would love to pay 10.00 a lb for beef

Here's a CWD map from this spring. Free ranging populations in Illinois right up against the Illinois-Indiana border. How very nice of those deer to observe that border and not go into Indiana huh?

Like I said, make an example of these idiots and put some real fear into anyone else who might consider a similar act.

Crap, has it hurt the other types of deer like mule deer, elk, moose and all?

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) of mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk (or "wapiti"), moose, and reindeer. As of 2016, CWD had only been found in members of the deer family.[1] First recognized as a clinical "wasting" syndrome in 1967 in mule deer in a wildlife research facility in northern Colorado, USA, it was identified as a TSE in 1978 and has spread to free-ranging and captive populations in 23 US states and two Canadian provinces.[2] CWD is typified by chronic weight loss leading to death. No relationship is known between CWD and any other TSE of animals or people.

All this /|\

The problem with TSE diseases is these things called prions. Kinda like really bad viruses but they're tough as nails and aren't easily killed like most viruses. They make all the proteins in your brain fold up and become non functional = once you get a prion type disease it's game over.

If I'm not mistaken, it's not a matter of IF any given part of the US will get CWD, it's when. Hopefully people won't be stupid shite-heads like these guys and we'll put off being contaminated for a long long time.

My biggest fear is that CWD will make the jump to humans and deer will start being seen as a health threat. That would kill hunting as we know it. I don't understand why people aren't taking this seriously. There's always that guy who is a taxidermist who says it's a myth and that the carcass transport laws are gonna put him out of business. There's a bigger picture that we need to be looking at.
