I got a call yesterday asking if my passport was up to date. Looks like we're going to be sent where the work is.

Obama is catering to their ignorance and uninformed fears. The idiots whipped into a frenzy by the media are running the show now. It has nothing to do with safety, but verything to do with creating the political appearance of "doing something".
Or cased hole work

Well said... Its funny the LA news media has been bashing the oil industry for a month but now that they realize what they have done (ie shutdown the industry which severely hurts the state $$ wise) and now they are back tracking like CRAZY.
The Oil Patch accounts for WAY MORE $$ than fishing and tourism, but their story sold more ad space. You get what u ask for...

Exactly Taxing. Well put.
One of our supers said in passing that production is included in oil and gas, and that our company should just close all the valves and see what happens to the politicians a week after that's taken place.
Granted, he wasn't serious, but I still

I'm not sure if this is the same but it was mentioned this AM that a small operator had been granted a permit to drill. Even though it was considered shelf they were going to be drilling into about 750' of water. The media and gov freaked out that MMS granted the permit and they were told to shut it down.
Not to hijack this thread, but don't you see how this was the POTUS's strategy from the beginning? Look at the correlation of the "Media" and the "White House" reactions. From what has been posted, this well is in less than 1,000ft of water. Look at the success ratios and safety records at that depth. The MMS is the agency with the knowledge - not the White House or Media. Rational thoughts can only assume MMS would err on the side of caution, given the magnifying glass they are operating under right now. Yet, the blow hards in Washington know what's best for us, even though 90% have never even seen a rig, well, the Gulf of Mexico, the reg's everyone must operate under, etc.
Just another stake in the heart of what we are quickly starting to refer to as the former US Economy. I NEVER have thought anything like this could have been remotely possible, but this is just too slick not to have some sort of reality.

Obama would never do that lets see........
It has nothing to do with HEALTHCARE,but everything to do with creating the political appearance of "doing something". Doing something that means healthcare for all......bs its all just a big vote getting ploy. This POTUS is in waaaaay over his head.

I agree. He must destroy what exists to replace it with what he, Obama, wants. Pathetic

Why doesn't any of the majors come out and argue vehemently against this? Why not educate the public what kind of financial mess this is going to cause?

The governor and our two senators should be going ballistic right now.

Do you really think that the ignorant public would listen to anything the oil companys have to say right now. Not to mention they have the blowhards in Washington against them along with a dishonest media. It is really a no win situation.

Just spoke to a supplier of mine and he said he spoke with some people from a couple of the majors and said the amount of layoffs coming if this thing isn't rescinded will be catastrophic.

Where in the hell is Rick Perry and the senators from Texas?

The governor has sent a letter to the regime (administration) urging them to speed the process up and lift the moratorium.

I would be very supprised if this moratorium is lifted before the six months. NO WAY that this POTUS is going to lift the ban at a republican governors request. This president is way to arrogant to admit that he is wrong on the issue and a republican was right.

But how will he cover up or spin when unemployment moves up to 12-13% or more.......the blood will be on his hands for this debacle.

quote:I agree, but I could see him shortening the time from say 6 to 3 months especially if they cap this thing soon. I think he realizes the economic impact of what the stoppage means I bet he's trying to weasel something out of TExas and LA first.
