Get off your soapbox hippy. You think a Prius driving nation would have somehow stopped this from happening? Idiot.
I am so fricking sick of dickwads using this trite response to anyone who even hints that we need to be more responsible. Get off your soapbox, you corporate fascist dumbfrick!

I have always been an optimist, however have a relative, on the Govt side of the source, and I havve spoken with him several times on this incident (he is not assigned to this one) and he has been telling me that the leak will not be contained until the relief well is complete. His reasoning is that the volume of the well can produce $200 mil in profits a month given $100 /barrel oil,and they can' pay for all liabilities and clean up , after a year of pumping therefore, they have chose not to stop it.

I was also told top kill was a bluff (I honestly didn't beleive him) as he told me drilllin mud doesn't react the way the graphic images and live video feed represents: at day 1 I was told that appeared to be sediment mixed with sea wAter

I hope my relative is wrong, however it appears he was correct... God Bless

They are around 11,000 feet with the first relief well. Why would it be August?

The permanent solution to the leak, a relief well currently being drilled, won't be ready until August, BP says.

OK, if they say so. It usually doesn't take 2 months to drill 7,000 feet. Especially after you just drilled a well next to it and know what to expect.

How much oil does your relative think this well is producing? @$100/bbl, it would take 66,667 bpd to generate $200MM in REVENUE. I can't begin to guess how much oil would have to be produced to generate $200MM in PROFIT.
Assuming this reservoir IS that profitable, why would BP choose to let it continue to flow? What fraction of the flow do you think they are collecting? If they control the well, they can sell it all.

Your relative was not correct. Coincidentally, his/her prediction matched the actual outcome of the Top Kill attempt, but don't confuse that with them being correct. Your relative is a nutjob, and you are wise not to believe him or her.

Vor did you read the link that bait posted a few post before me. "Relief well not ready until august" What u think i made that up? I wish it were online right fricking now. At best that relief well wont be up until August. It takes a little bit more than just drilling. Alot more.

Doesnt make logical sense. The wellbore is trashed. Plus bp are drilling two more wells for relief that could easily be sidetracked and used for production.
