simple case of some media knucklehead not doing his/her homework and an editor now rereading the info....tunnel....pretty funny.

what's most amazing to me is that some of the most technically inaccurate reporting has come from papers in the heart of oil country, where there's a huge number of people among their own subscriber bases.

I've seen mention of the "tunnel" on all sorts of sites today. One dipshit screwed itup, and they are all copying it.

By far, the most painful thing I've ever seen in my oilfield career was the day that Congressional (Circus) panel was questioning Tony Hayward. I've never wanted to reach through the screen and choke a muthafuka as bad as I wanted to that day.
The fact they were grilling the CEO of a multinational company (A suit), trying to ask him technical questions about drilling when he wouldn't have known a single thing about the DWH, the job, or where the rig even was had the accident not happened. Like watching Ryan Perrilloux give a speech to Harvard students on how to be a fine, upstanding citizen and how to succeed in life.

The worst part about that was the people asking the questions knew damn good and well he didn't have the answers. It was all grandstanding bullshite solely for their constituents.

Glad I'm not the only one that though "tunnel" was stupid. But it's par for the course. They just don't know what they are talking about. They kept calling the riser a pipeline in the earlier days. Yah, they are both made of pipe, but they are very different in function...

To this day, Thad Allen still confuses casing and drill pipe. The newspapers are bad enough at making shite up but if the word from the "source" is inaccurate then that's a whole different ballgame.

I read somewhere he was provided with the questions ahead of time. Even if he wasn't, don't you think he could guess what would be on the table and do some preparation?

It's probably best not to try to memorize answers when talking to congress. Plus I think it's pretty obvious that he has been the fall guy once his PR was shot so I think BP made a concious decision to make him look as bad as possible so they could bring in someone else that would look like Jesus Christ.
