is BP's but the rig, process and safety is Transocean. They are getting off so far unharmed. I'd be reminding people too who's rig this was... But all in all the big name is BP and that is what people are going after.

Transocean may have owned the rig but any operations were under the direct control of BP. When a rig is contracted, like this one was, the co. rep on board is calling the shots. The rig has an OIM(Offshore Instillation Manager) but the co rep has the last word. OIM can overule but it happens VERY rarely.

I saw in an article that they were offloading equipment for another approach to stopping the flow. I am assuming it is the Junk shot.

Anyone have any more info on the Junk shot?

Are they actively persuing this idea?

I live in Houston....I wasn't here in the 80's when things went south but I understand that it was pretty bad. I've worked with GSF (now part of Transocean) and other drilling and oilfield service companies, but on the financial side of things. These companies have great people who are very bright and talented and I've always been impressed with what they can do...everyone will learn from this but I hope it's not too costly.

25 years in Production. Have been in a Field Foreman or Project Manager position since 91'. Drilling is not my forte', so don't expect much input from me on this subject.
