I'll see if I can paint you a picture. On the spool, there are two big alignment pins that fit through holes in the flange of the LMRP. On the bottom of these pins, are steel cables. One ROV took one of the cables and went back to the flange, fed the cable through the alignment hole and then handed the cable to another ROV. Then he went back and did the same with the second cable. Now they're just going to pull on the cables and the pins should automatically align with the flange.

Is the new flange supposed to be flush against the bottom flange? or does it need the bolts to be tightened to bring them together?

looks like the two hole pin's wider base had not make contact with the bottom flange. I hope it is not something in the flex joint that is holding up the flange transition spool.

No that is the shape of the hole. Saw them unplug it this am.

I'm surprised they disconnected the spool prior to flanging it up!!!
