I've never seen or heard their story change, they posted that story you linked two days after the explosion and it doesn't say they were tied up.

As far as the compass thing, this is what he said.
"I positioned my compass North and put the gears in WOT!"
I read that as something like, "I pointed that bitch North and hit the gas!" Doesn't mean he slowly manuevered the boat, like you said in your previous post.

I'm not sure about your #2, but I don't know how you can say "No vessels were asked to stay away for safety.", when you have no idea who they even spoke to on the radio. I can easily see the coast guard telling people to stay clear when an oil rig is exploding.

I know these guys, have for a while now, fact is they were there and they have video. They have not done one thing to this day to try and profit off the incident. They're stand up guys.

I think the reason people may have thought they said they were tied to the rig, is they mentioned there was a crew boat tied to the rig, you know how stuff gets changed up when it gets circulated.

Yep you were correct...

The Na Kika field extends over Missisipi Canyon blocks 474, 429, 657, 607, 522, 520, 383 in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 140 miles south-east of New Orleans, Louisiana, US. It has recoverable reserves of 300 million barrels of oil equivalent and a production rate of around 110,000bpd oil and 500 million cubic feet of gas a day.

it may be illegal, but if you're going to try and tell me that I've never been less than 20 feet from a rig fishing, then I don't know what to tell you man. Lots of illegal stuff happens all the time. To be honest, I didn't know it was illegal until people started trying to pick their story apart for whatever reason. I went out there with them a few times and we were never told not to be under any of the 5 or 6 rigs we visited. A few rig workers actually watched us fish.

I guess someone needs to try to explain it better that there may have been another fishing boat and their story is getting mixed up with your friends.
Who are these asses that are suing?

The person that posted within a few days of the explosion said a friend in the boat said it was too dangerous to go back near the rig, so they never came back in to rescue folks.

Nakika is located at MC473 and the Horizon was at MC272.

If you look at the link to the other forum you will see the edit date. Eventually as the story spread, those guys got blasted on the other forum and the thread was locked. The original version said that they were tied off to the rig.

Since it was first posted here it has been edited again. LINK

This was quoted from the first post of the linked thread here which was linked to the original on another site.

i can tell you what went wrong too:

When the gas started blowing out the side of the rig they turned off the power to prevent electrical spark which would ignite the gas, but when they shut power the generator kicked on and thats all she wrote!

It isn't part of the original post anymore. The story has changed too many times to be believable.

I've been tied up to a rig and had DFW board my boat, they didnt give a shite, they were just worried about what I had in my ice chest.

Most rigs dont care, I have never had one rig tell me to untie, however, I have never tied up to a floater, I think they are a little more strict.

Well I don't know what to say man, agree to disagree? I'm not sure why you posted a link to someone posting about them, that wasn't them posting it, so why does the edit date matter?
What do you believe?

I've fished a ton of times under rigs, The guys on the rigs will get on you if they are running a crane or a supply vessel is trying to work but we catch all our hardtails, etc under rigs not to mention snapper and amberjack.

yeah you can tie up to jacket platforms all you want, thats no biggie.

the bold is key, you're supposed to stay 100-500' away i believe. For national security reasons. He'll you need a TWIC card to go onto the floaters

really TWIC card...good thing I have one. Never tied up to a floater. Wonder why you don't need a TWIC for a fixed platform or do you?

LET ME CLARIFY THIS:

You cannot tie up to, are go w/in a certain distance to a floating platform

Rigs on the shelf are ok to tie off to

thats a whole different story, obviously you would move if a boat is approaching, and if a boat is on its way the guys on the rig will give you a heads up.

bold is the key. I've been next to a floater before as well. I wish I had some pics to show, the only ones I have show us a few hundred yards from a floater where I caught a big arse tuna.
