BP is initially going with 6 machines. There are 20 ready to be placed when BP allows it.
Why not just put all of them out there now?

With all due respect to KC his brother and machine even a thousand of these machines won't scratch the surface of this mess.

You have to start somewhere, Weir Skimmers, Rope Mop Skimmers, Heavy Duty Oil Skimmers, Vinyl Booms, Sausage Booms, Pom Poms, Oil Spill Pads, Drum Type Skimmers, Disc Skimmers... I'm sure many of this equipment has come into play on this spill. Best of luck to all working this.

every little bit helps but these are all surface devices. The real problem is the huge plumes of oil underneath the surface and not visible by satellite

How, when and if it breaks down. This is a long haul. Too many things come into play here.

I am not trying to say that every little bit helps. I have just heard so many people today thinking these machines are going to solve the problem by themselves. I am just trying to point out that by themselves they are of limited value.

Manpower is needed to operate this type of equipment. Like anything else, getting to the oil, getting the manpower and equipment in.
