Coral reefs are way over rated.

I propose a sovereign corporation to handle our offshore drilling. BP had only 6 guys on the rig.

So what? Back in the days when I was in the oilfield there was only one "company man" on the rig.

You are bloviating. I bet you and your ilk can't wait until the parade of marine life covered in oil is paraded on national TV to appeal to the emotions of millions of viewers.

The fact that he thinks and actually admits that he thinks Sovereign means "the USA owns it", is all I need to know about him

yeah that is the answer, put the govt. in charge of all energy production in the US. Just one more layer of dependence on govt. for everyone to endure.

"Once it gains enough strength after circulating in the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf Stream then moves east, rejoins the Antilles Current, and exits the area through the Straits of Florida. Here, the Gulf Stream is a powerful underwater river that transports water at a rate of 30 million cubic meters per second (or 30 Sverdrups). It then flows parallel to the east coast of the United States and later flows into the open ocean near Cape Hatteras but continues moving north. While flowing in this deeper ocean water, the Gulf Stream is its most powerful (at about 150 Sverdrups), forms large meanders, and splits into several currents, the largest of which is the North Atlantic Current.

The North Atlantic Current then flows further north and feeds the Norwegian Current and moves the relatively warm water along the west coast of Europe. The rest of the Gulf Stream flows into the Canary Current which moves along the eastern side of the Atlantic Ocean and back south to the equator."

venezuelans pay 25 cents a gallon.

The current lease system allows us to buy gasoline at the market price, whatever it is bid up to. the sky is the limit. india and china will bid up the price.

So, for the record, you are saying you want the United States government to seize control of something complex like the Offshore Drilling Industry when they can't efficiently handle something simple like delivering the mail?

USPS is very efficient at delivering mail.
We pay half what Euros pay for stamps.
We do more with less.

Are you aware of the actual statistics for delivery?
Probably not. Pick another topic. USPS is quite efficient.
Try again.

How about the NIH, or CDC?

FAA?

I think the SEC is one you would be correct on, but they were looking the other way during the BUSH era. Let's see how they do now that Congress is paying attention.

If we have months of flowing oil, it is going to move to the keys, by and by.

It'll be too diluted to do much damage to the reefs in florida by then... even if it's flowing at 20,000 bbl/day for 3 months (pretty much worst case scenario). It won't all get picked up in the loop current, if it even makes it that far.

Perhaps you should try again. Note: This report is from YOUR beloved Government. LINK
quote:

USPS’s financial condition has continued to deteriorate in the first 5 months
of fiscal year 2009 and USPS expects its financial condition to continue
deteriorating for the rest of the fiscal year
quote:

In addition, USPS projects its financial difficulties will continue in fiscal year
2010 and result in an even greater cash shortfall. USPS’s most immediate
challenge is to dramatically reduce costs fast enough to meet its financial
obligations. USPS has proposed that Congress give it financial relief of $25
billion over 8 years by changing the statutory mandate for funding its retiree
health benefits. GAO recognizes the need for immediate financial relief, but
prefers 2-year relief so that Congress can determine what further actions are
needed. It is not clear that either option would be sufficient because USPS
projects it will operate on a thin margin, risking a larger cash shortfall if it
does not meet its ambitious cost-cutting goals, mail volume declines more
than projected, or unexpected costs materialize, such as fuel cost increases.

Otto how much oil is coming out of this well at the moment? The Exxon Valdez leaked all of its' oil upon breaking up on the reef, 11.5 miilion barrels of oil in a very small body of water. The gulf stream as you say will take SOME of the oil towards Floridas' tip, and it will be diluted by exactly haw many billions of "barrels" of water?
