Just heard on the radio that catch and release fishing will not be allowed in the closed areas. Anyone have any further info? Reasoning behind this?

Pretty assinine if you ask me, the fishing moratorium may be even dumber than the drilling one.

Scientific fact:
Fish do not absord hydrocarbons
Fish do not absord hyrdocarbons + Corexit

I would be more concerned about my motor being fouled up, but hey it's oil lets scare people.

Probably they fear fishermen interfering with clean up. Jumping Booms etc

Or is it the fact that many of the charter captains have been told by their lawyers that supporting catch and release will jeopardize their claims?

Could be the main issue. It certainly would put a kink in their case.

Many many guides suppored Catch and Release. this is the same type of crap where the unions support the democrat or the police chiefs support gun control but the people they represent don't agree.

I'm CCA's, Louisianasportsman's, and a wildlife and fisheries bigwig's email list and I have heard nothing about this. But who knows...

Possibly, but still f'ed up....This whole saga has been a comedy of errors. Pretty shitty for the charterboat captains to do this to the recreational fisherman that support them.

LA dept wildlife was concerned that all the fisher bozo's, yea Im one, would be interfering with the cleanup efforts.

Launches would be more crowded, and oh, excuse me while I pull up to that boom while I unhook my topwater.

And then there is the issue of all the rec fishermen bringing oil back to the marinas/launches.

To be able to fish is to be able to just openly run thru the oiled areas.... And they have no way to police/determine whether you caught/kept that fish in "open" waters or closed waters.

While that may have something to do with it......so did the charter boat association who came out against it.

the wildlife and fisheries site has nothing to back this up. Any one have the info on the catch and release not being allowed?

it is a fact. they had a open meeting yesterday morning. seems most of the charter captains did not support catch and release as it would really not help their business. the chairman voted yes to keeping fishing open and the board voted 4-3 no from what i understand. fishing closed.

Pretty self serving......I've seen some websites championing a boycott of these charterboats when things come back.

I kind of understand them canceling it. Has to be a nightmare to police catch and release.
