ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- When tourists and owners at Sugar Beach condominiums started tracking oil and tar from the sand onto a boardwalk Saturday morning, property manager Patrick McIntosh called BP PLC and asked for a cleanup crew.

He expected that help would be there in minutes, as that's what he said he was told during meetings with city officials earlier in the week.

Instead, he said he was asked if the property was public or private.

After answering private, McIntosh said, he was told that he would have to file a claim and clean the boardwalk himself. The operator asked for his e-mail address and phone number.

That is ridiculous...BP will pay for a lot, but that would not be one of the things I would make them pay for...

If you'll read the article, they refused to clean the beach in front of the condos too.

Should I be surprised? It has only just begun.

I don't have to read the article. That guy is out of his mind if he thinks he is going to get a quick, positive response from BP to clean his property.

it will be interesting to see how bp and the feds respond along the beaches compared to louisiana. I have a feeling about the same. this will be a sad summer for those all along the gulf coast.

Don't worry the beach will be closed in the coming days, rentals will go flat, and they can just pay for that. Some condos are already closing their beaches for that very reason (oil on and in the boardwalk and pool).

On another note: Damn lady, keep your kids out of and away from the oil.

You can choose not to read the rest of the article, but then it makes you look ignorant to the resto of the argument.. They cleaned the beaches, up to in front of the condo's. Then left after getting within about an eighth of a mile. Had they continued and cleaned up, then they condo owner wouldn't be facing issues. It's like he said, they have BP workers with hazmat cleaning up, the owner should be out of pocket to hire and pay for hazmat cleanup because BP quit cleaning the beach?

from what I have witnessed here in Louisiana I'm surprised a crew was even cleaning insteading of sitting underneath tents smoking and cracking jokes.
