Yep that's the kind of crap that confuses me when the OOB names change for certain militaries or branches

And to just make it ever more complicated, sometimes even the regiment/brigade thing changes as well. For example in WWII there armor regiments and cavalry "groups". Later on there were Cavalry battalions and there's a few army guard Cav brigades if I remember correctly.

That's usually where I've read about OOB, in WWII. Seeing the differences between each nation's military is what gets me confused every time.

It can be hard to keep up with. For example a Soviet Tank Corps was actually akin to a western tank division. A Soviet tank army was equal to a German Panzer Corps. And then there was the German habit of throwing together a motley collection of units from different divisions and forming temporary units called "kampfgruppen".

Yep that's where it starts going over my head

The most complicated is the British in WWII. They had some independent regiments, some independent brigades, and on top of that they had divisions made up of both brigades and regiments.

Selling it for scrap, pennies on the dollar. ..

Will bet money that is either elements of 3rd ID (Stewart/Benning), 4th ID, or 1st CD (Hood) on their way to or from Fort Irwin.
And the top picture has a VTR on the right side. The rest are a mixture of Abrams and Bradleys.
ETA: Depending on where the picture was taken. If that is Louisiana then it should be 3rd ID.

Isn't it the 3rd ID that's got its heavy brigade deployed to Poland right now? I think it is but I'm not sure.

Not sure who has a forward deployed element in Europe right now. But if that is Louisiana (which apparently it is) then it is an East-West move. That means 3rd ID on their way to or from NTC. If they were heading to port for seaborne move they would just go out of Savannah or (at worst) Mobile.
ETA: It could be an element from Hood using New Orleans as a port but that is very unlikely. They would head out of Houston or Corpus Christi.
Pretty good for a light fighter/paratrooper.

Well that's one train that ain't gonna get robbed.

The train was heading west. It's in Louisiana, just upriver from New Orleans.

That's a whole lot of weight on that bridge and that's a lot of weight on each car. Is that commercial rail or military?
Posted on 3/10/17 at 8:32 pm to Tdot_RiverDawg
It was also carrying tank cars so I'm guessing commercial. Never seen an actual military train engine.

saw them coming from Textron around noon today.
I worked there for 13 years. These vehicles didn't come from textron
Can y'all give me some locations? I'd like to look the Textron place up on google earth.

Then my guess it was an element from Georgia (3rd ID) heading to California (Fort Irwin, National Training Center).
