Well if a kid on the team was named Coon and he didn’t have a teammate called Knee Grow...... I would have just thought it was his last name.

Where did the coonass slur for Louisianians come from?

Did it stem from the belief that white Louisianans have black ancestry?

In college we had a group called the bleacher creatures that would come to basketball games dressed in crazy outfits. One game a dude showed up dressed as a bed and I believe to this day it was his true intent. Of course, he looked exactly like a Klan member. We also just happened to be playing an almost exclusively African American team that night. Our dean realized it pretty quick and told him how it appeared. The dude was pretty embarrassed. That was even before things were so sensitive.
