"Travel" ball is almost the only game in town in a lot of places.
quote:We play travel ball. But it is the same talent pool that is at the rec league. You play with a decent coach in rec, make All Stars, and you get about three tournaments in....not too bad, and your kid is guaranteed to play all over the place on the field.
Now, you can still do travel ball without being idiotic about it or it having to be a year-round thing. Some of the people in this thread seem to have a grasp on that.

In small rural areas, yes.
Try and find a quality rec league in BR.. It doesnt exist.
My son fills in for a team during rec league and its a joke.. The only quality teams are travel teams and they do it to develop pitchers but on the whole, its not enough

I've never heard of a rec league with open rosters

With Traction taking over the management of Cypress Mounds... the word is that they want to form a solid league to ease some of the travel. Go to a more traditional style with kids playing a tournament once a month or so during the spring with league games and practice scattered within. This way the rosters for tournament teams would be more fluid as players move around based on a number of factors. They then would play more tournaments in mid may and june. Currently the way it works.. Your busiest months are March and April for weekend tournaments.
Are they trying to do this for ages 6-14 or just the young ones?
