Why is it you equate having things to debt? I have a few toys. No debt. I use them when I feel like it.

When you posess things. Even if theyre paid off they are still a liability to you both financially and in time. Take a boat for instance, you pay cash for a boat, you then owe insurance, gas, transportation cost, and maintance. Then you have to worry about housing it. It depreciates so you lose the hard earned money you purchased it for.

Now after all if that, you now you waste a whole saturday being out on the water.

If your going to lose money and time. It would be better to rent.

Sorry you hate capitalism you commie.

Youre mistaking capitalism for consumerism.

Why spend all your days comsuming when you can use your time and mind to create?

You need meds.

I CHOOSE to spend my time as I see fit on this earth.

If you are so week minded your garage full of stuff speaks to you and “makes” you do shite, seek professional help.

When I die, I will lose them all anyway so at least I can focus on the now and glorify a different lifestyle.

Also, It didnt hit me until thinking about it deeper. Yes jesus wants you to focus your life on him but the reason the rich young ruler went away sorrowful is because he had great possessions but in reality the possesions owned his soul.

Kinda like a woman

Many real rich people also are born with the money to do so.

My pops would be an OT legend if he posted here.

He's 68, been divorced since he was 41 or so, raised 3 successful kids all of whom he put through private school and college.

He owns the absolute minimum amount of material possessions, speaks 5 languages and flies his 42 yr old Eastern European girlfriend all over the world to meet him on all of his travels. He sends her right back home when he's done too. Pops is pretty awesome. My wife says he's the most interesting person she's ever met

My possessions are keeping me busy and out of trouble.

I thought idle hands were the devil’s workshop.

And I wasn't the only slave to my nesting instinct. The people I know who used to sit in the bathroom with pornography, now they sit in the bathroom with their IKEA furniture catalogue. ~Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club, Chapter 5

You buy furniture. You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you. ~Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club, Chapter 5

Spent many saturdays on the lake catching sun and drinking beer. I just want more out of life now.

I live a very spartan lifestyle. My tv, my computer and my lazyboy are all I really need.

I have had a boat, nothing cold be more true, and I have come to realize that even owning a house outright with enough money to pay someone to do the upkeep is still a huge burden on my mental state. I am tied to it and one location, I am ready to rent for the remainder of my life, being able to give a short notice, pack, and leave for new surroundings in a matter of a few days will be very liberating.

I agree man. I'm not sure I'll ever own again after my daughter is done with school. I'd prefer not being responsible for maintaining it and just being able to pack up and move on a whim.
