Your fondest christmas memory

Mine centers around a family gathering for Christmas, but it focuses more on my paw paw.
He was in his 60s, and he always loved making a fire. Specifically, he loved chopping cypress kindling.
More specific than that, he loved chopping it with a hatchet at a terrifying rate of speed.
So he's in the den area near the fire, building my parrain a supply of kindling that will likely last the winter and the next, and all of the kids are watching him.
The man loved to teach, so he's showing us how to angle the hatchet so even if we miss and hit our hands we'll be okay. He's got girls and boys watching from age 18 to 5. And we're all amazed and trying it.
So the moms come in and they see all the kids taking turns swinging a hatchet as fast as they can. And paw paw is laughing, and the moms are freaking out.
And it perfectly captured him. The man likely never changed a diaper through 6 kids. I know for a fact he never once held an infant until I was born. But he loved his kids and grandkids more than anything. He taught me all kinds of practical things a man should know, and I'm forever grateful.
Merry Christmas

I miss Christmas mornings at my granny’s house. As a kid it was our first move after opening Santa gifts at home. My family is small, so it was just mom, dad, my brother, me, my granny and my dads two brothers who never married or had kids. My uncles have always treated my brother and I like their own sons, and they gave the best gifts. I lost my granny in high school and one uncle 3 years ago earlier this week. They’ve since torn my granny’s house down too, which sucks bc I used to drive by it once in a while just to see it and reminisce. But the Christmas morning gift openings and family time in that house will forever be crystal clear in my memory and it’s always my first thought when I think about Christmas.

I remember my dad always having a Christmas story on, non-stop throughout the day. It didn’t matter if anybody was in the room, he made sure every TV had it playing. We would always do snacks on Christmas Eve and if mom felt like cooking we cooked but she hates to cook so we would usually go and get hibachi and a movie
getting older as taken some of the joy away from Christmas but has made me more thankful in the time being. This year I’m just trying to enjoy being around my family, as you never know when it won’t be like that anymore. Merry Christmas to all

My grandfather was a typical short stocky south Louisiana man, who by the time we got to be of age, could be ornery at times. But when the holiday season arrived, and guests came over, that man was filled with the spirit while making everyone Old Fashioneds. He was witty with a smile, and each round of guests were treated to another round of drinks. The man who more often might be found nodding off in chair was now the life of the party.
His Old Fashioneds didn't use simple syrup, but he often garnished with a pineapple along with orange for the missing sweetness. There was no jigger, but a heavy pour. Everyone would soon find themselves looped after a few, and the Christmas gatherings were never dull. My grandfather is gone now, a member of the WWII generation, but I'll always remember when flashes of his youthful side appeared.

Family. Not any particular year or anything. Just family. If you still have all or most of those you love, make the most of out of it.

I had great memories as a kid but I think this Christmas is my favorite one. I have a two year old and watching him play with all his different toys have been great.
