That’s not because they’re young. It’s because they’re dumb. It’s not like everyone in 1994 was a map wizard.
Yeah, anyone with half a brain should be able to figure out a road map.

Everyone needs to buy a local city map and keep it in their vehicle. And also a state map and state maps for surrounding states.

Exactly. If you’re familiar with google maps, a paper map won’t look foreign to you like some people think.
Now if you’ve never seen a map or use google maps and just used waze, yeah that could frick you up.

I should have worded the title better. More like before GPS and before we had MapQuest, Google, etc.

I don't get directionally challenged people.
My ex called me asking me for directions to someplace and wanted me to stay on the phone and guide her through it. I was busy with something and said "stay straight on the road you are on and turn right at such and such. It'll be right there." She just could not comprehend "go straight and turn right", insisted on staying on the line with me, and stressed herself out when I had to let her go. Turned into a huge fight when I got home.

That’s what I meant. Poorly titled thread. Can I downvote myself?

Went to Panama City in college with some friends. We left PCB to head back to Lincoln Nebraska and I got first shift driving. We switched a couple times and it was one of the girls turns to drive. Her phone died when we got to St. Louis and she woke me up from my nap in an absolute panic because the their was a fork in the interstate. The two choices: West 70 to Kansas City, East 55 to Chicago.

GPS was a game changer for me when I used to travel for work. I used to just reserve a car with one until I landed in Philly one night and the rental company was out of them. I got lost in the hood for like an hour
Went out and bought one the next day.
Printing the mapquest directions always sucked.

Can you imagine this generation given a section township range to a well in the texas panhandle? Nothing like finding a well in the dark, while snowing, and no lights for miles.
Stoping to navigate a map broken down to the finest increments.

I still haven't started using GPS. I'm starting to understand old people that refuse to use new things.

Some white guy driving around at 11pm in the ghetto with the dome light on looking at a map. How I didn't die I'll never know

That would be tough because I don’t believe Texas uses S/T/R. My experience was blocks.

I traveled all over the country for nearly a decade. Mostly pre smartphone days. It was awesome to pack a Garmin rather than maps or mapquest instructions when I was in a new place.

If you want to see something pathetic ask someone under age 30 to draw a rough map of the major highways in their state.
