I dont understand why people complain about the cost of cable/internet
I pay $140 a month for cable and internet.
I consider that a bargain for the many hours of entertainment it provides.
Because ABC, NBC, CBS and others are free, yet the cable companies try to charge you for them. I don't watch much tv anymore outside of sports and some news, all I want is an easy way to get ABC, NBC, and CBS so that I can watch sports.
So yes, my Internet is $65/ month, and it costs over $100 for cable. That's $400/ year in savings I'd like.

Friend of mine has Cox in BR, but he swears by TiVo boxes. I think he just pays a couple bucks a month for a cable card from Cox and uses his own boxes.

Aren't you paying like $15/mo for Tivo service
$150/year=$12.50 a month. First year was included with purchase price. Lifetime subscription is not such a good deal. It's the lifetime of the Tivo box, not your lifetime.
ETA: The subscription charge applies only to the main DVR unit. The satellite units for additional TVs share the same program guide with no additional charge.

Besides watching on my TV, can I have Tivo in a small always-on-top window on my PC?
You can access Tivo On-Line in your browser and have full control, i.e., schedule recordings, watch live TV, etc.
quote:
Can I watch at 1.5x speed with audio?
You can speed it up by 30% with pitch-corrected audio (no chipmunk effect). Most recorded TV shows also allow one-touch skipping of commercials.

Can I hide channels and renumber and thus group the ones I keep in any way that I want?
You can hide channels, group by favorites, and show the channel logos. Tivo also includes all of the major streaming channels, e.g., Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, so there's no need for a separate Roku or Fire TV box.
I switched when WMC changed program guide suppliers and it wasn't accurate for Baton Rouge. It messed up all my scheduled recordings. I also wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 and would have lost WMC. I now have a Tivo Bolt and three Tivo Minis supporting four TVs. It's rock solid, easy to use for the entire family, and I don't need to run a PC server 24/7. BTW, I sold my X-Boxes and HomeRun tuners on e-bay for almost as much as the Tivo system cost. And best of all I no longer have to be everybody's tech support guy.

Good info; sounds like Tivo can do the more "advanced" things WMC can do. Would prefer 1.5x for the FF-with-audio mode, though.
My plan is to stick with Windows 8.1 until guide data runs out, which I think could be in 1/2023, when "Extended Support" ends. Since Microsoft switched from Zap2it to Rovi, the only new problem I've noticed in BR is that sporting events like CFB almost all show up as "Teams TBA". That's a widely reported problem, and there's a guide replacement called EPG123 people have been using. I haven't checked it out though.
